It’s no secret that society has an unhealthy attachment to their mobile devices and social media – especially children. Industry giants like YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat have built their products to be as addictive as possible, and unfortunately, often exploiting impressionable, youthful psychology. The expectation for new generations is that they self-manage their consumption on these platforms. However, Atland knows better than anyone how difficult this is in practice.

And the numbers don’t lie. Yale Medicine writes that teens who use social media over 3 hours each day face twice the risk of having negative mental health outcomes, including depression and anxiety symptoms. Teens spend an average of 4.8 hours on social media every day…

The United States has started taking notice of social media’s control over young minds. Legislation such as New York’s potential ban on addictive features or the Kids Online Safety Act is pending, but legislation alone will not be enough.

In the words of Angel Kids AI founder and CEO Tim Estes, “This market has a product problem.” Unlike the restrictive internet blocking of competitors, Angel plans to build a safe platform kids actually enjoy interacting with.

Central to Angel Kids AI’s mission is putting kids – instead of monetization and addiction – at the center of their own online experience. By leveraging LLMs, NLP, and multi-modal models to synthesize the web, Angel is creating a safe, engaging environment for children to explore and ask questions. Angel answers a child’s questions of the internet with text, images, and videos, all tailored and age-appropriate to the child.

Angel Kids AI is also built to involve parents with their weekly insights portal and screen-time limits. The platform even recommends face-to-face conversation between parent and child if a child asks something above their age range.

Atland is especially excited to be backing the exceptional talent working on Angel Kids AI. CEO Tim Estes, previously founder of Digital Reasoning, impressed Atland with his commitment, passion, and vision towards a safer internet for children. The team has also been busy positioning themselves for their expected launch this fall. After making an appearance at CogX, working closely to pass KOSA, and being featured on LinkedIn News, Angel AI has shown exciting momentum for what’s to come.

We look forward to how Angel Kids AI will continue to leverage AI for good and positively transform the internet for young people.
